GoKick in Zurich

by Claudio Cirelli

Hi Gokickers!,
first of all, let me introduce myself: my name is Claudio Cirelli and I’m proud to announce that the first match of the new born Gokick Swiss Community has been played in Zurich on the 27th of October 2010! (ehm… sorry for the delay of the official announcement, my fault…)
But let’s start from the beginning: Luis proposed me the idea of exporting Gokick in the land of the chocolate and cheese (and money) already few months ago, in March 2010, when the new version of Gokick was released. Question: how could he know me? Well, in fact, I know Qui, Quo, Qua (in German it would be Tick, Trick und Track), I mean, Luigi, Pietro and Davide since 1995 or something like this, when we used to spend any bloody saturday afternoon all year round (no matter the snow and the ice in January, no matter the 40 degrees in August) playing together football at the Forlanini Park in Milan (Luis, this reference to the Forlanini is for you! Now I expect you are moved to tears at least!). And even if I basically could never participate to any Gokick event since it was created in 2004 (because I moved abroad just few months before), still I’m one of the oldest registered users also in the old gokick.it.
During the last months, I tried to figure out whether the idea of Gokick would be successful here in Zurich: the fact is that since I have been living here (since 2004!), I have been able to play football regularly without any need of reserving pitches or contacting other people to “organize” the teams. In fact, through all the city there are plenty of wonderful public pitches, with goals and lines on the grass, that can simply be used by anyone for free! I started joining the group of people that met every wednesday at the football field of the University Campus; with time I built up a long mailing list with a lot of colleagues and friends and we used to meet every week somewhere in the town to play, in case incorporating other
unknown players met on the pitch: basically already a community but without a real control: it easily happened that a week we were 3, the week after we were 16… To avoid theses problems, the Gokick organization is perfect! I have to say that after a couple of weeks, the things are going very well up here: 17 Gokickers are registered, we could already organize 2 matches in 2 different locations and I received already enthusiastic comments about the habit of giving ratings after any match (something that here in Switzerland I think is not so common; not like in Italy, where anyone, particularly the Fantacalcio players, is always checking out the grades on any newspaper…). I’m quite sure that the things will go even better and our community will explode next spring, when we start to play outdoor on grass again. Here in the Land of the Alps, winter is consecrated to skiing an snow-related sports in general. But in spring and summer, anyone remembers how wonderful is to play football outdoor and in spring-summer 2011, anyone will realize how exciting it is to do this
within the Gokick community!
Therefore, to all the people out there: train hard, the Swiss (Zurich limited for the moment…) Community is building up, ready to receive any challenge for an International Match during the upcoming season!
Stay tuned!
